South Colombo Library
We’ve got an exciting new temporary tenant for Christchurch book lovers. Christchurch City Libraries is teaming up with The Colombo to bring you a brand-new pop-up library opening in early 2025.
The pop-up library will serve as a temporary home while the South Library building, damaged by the earthquake, is demolished and rebuilt as the brand-new Ōmōkihi South Library and Customer Service Hub.
The pop-up library will be open seven days a week with hours to be confirmed soon. It is expected to operate until December 2026, when the new Ōmōkihi South Library is scheduled to open. You can find the library on the western side of The Colombo, and it will offer around 8,000 items for borrowing, a dedicated children’s area, and plenty of space to relax and study. The familiar South Library team will run the show, so you’ll feel right at home.
The Council Customer Service Hub will temporarily relocate to the Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre during the Ōmōkihi construction.
